Auchencairn

Auchencairn Bowling Club lies on the Balcary Bay road, just off the A711 coast road from Dalbeattie to Kirkcudbright. The Club was founded in 1875 and presently has 46 members, 13 women and 33 men + 1 Junior(Ronan).
The club runs a Monday night and Thursday night leagues which are well attended and keenly contested. We also play in the Stewartry leagues, Cup and Top Ten with varying success.
Visitors are welcome to play on our green. Club President for 2008 is Laurie Little, Vice President is William Malcolmson and Club Secretary is Bob Hope . Any further information can be had from 01556 502 933.
Castle Douglas

Castle Douglas Bowling Club, founded in 1861, stands on a parcel of land encircled by King Street, Queen Street and Marle Street, just north of Carlingwark Loch.
The club currently has 103 members: 85 Gents, 16 Ladies and 2 Juniors. The President of the Scottish Bowling Association for 2006, Jim Stewart, is a member of the club. Ten of our members played in last season’s Andrew Hamilton Trophy for the Stewartry Bowling Association.

Janice Maxwell won Gold medals at the Commonwealth Games in 1990 & 1994, also Gold at World Bowls 1992. She was also Scottish Ladies Singles Champion in 1986.
Stephen Conchar was runner-up in the Scottish Singles Championship in 2004. Graeme Maxwell was runner-up in the Scottish Junior Singles Championship in 1993. The club was runner-up of the Scottish Top Ten in 1998.
Creetown

Creetown Bowling Club is at the western extremity of the Stewartry Bowling Association. Just off the A75, we are 6 miles from Newton Stewart and 8 miles from Gatehouse of Fleet.
The bowling club has been part of the community for a long time. Bowling used to take place on two rinks made from the lawn of the two houses next to King George V Park. The club then moved to its present location in 1912.
A picture of the green in use at this time can be seen in the “Photos of Creetown” booklet at the Creetown Heritage Centre. The club is situated on Barholm Street, near the Village Square and Clock Tower.

Gatehouse

Bowling in Gatehouse was first seen to have been taken place in the late 1840’swhen the first ordnance survey maps showed there were two rinks in what is now the gardens of the Murray Arms Hotel. The Gatehouse Green Bowling Club was established in 1850with the playing of the rink medal and the single handed medal. The original medal for the single handed championship is still being played for to this day.In 1938 the bowling club moved to its current location, an area of land known as the “cow park” which was donated to the club by Mr W McConnel a solicitor from Gatehouse.The new green and pavillion were opened by Mr John McKie MP.
Kirkcudbright

Kirkcudbright Bowling Club was instituted in 1855. A meeting of subscribers appointed a committee on 7th September 1855 who approached the Earl of Selkirk for a site. This site was a park opposite the Parish Church and work commenced on the laying of the green with the opening fixed for the 5th August 1856. A green keeper was duly appointed, his salary for the season not to exceed £6.
In 1860 an Open Tournament, thought to be the first of its kind in Scotland attracted an entry of 128 players and the winner was a Mr Hugh McCutcheon from Girvan who received a silver plate to the value of 20 Guineas.

Kirkgunzeon is on the A711 Dalbeattie to Dumfries road, about 10 miles south of Dumfries.
New Abbey

New Abbey is about 5 miles south of Dumfries on the A710. The summit of Criffel lies to the south west.
Spalding

Spalding Bowling Club, formed in 1912, is to be found in the lovely village of St Johns Town of Dalry. It is just off the A713 Castle Douglas to Ayr road, the entrance to the club can be found opposite Bones garage.
