The play off for the Senior League title between Section ‘A’ winners Auchencairn and Section’B’ winners Gatehouse was held today at New Abbey. In a tight finish Gatehouse held on to win by 2 shots. In a seesaw game Laurie Little, Brian Jones & Jock Smith beat David Kiltie, Tom Kirkpatrick & George Brown 18 - 15. After 5 ends Auchencairn were 8-0 up, after 10 ends Gatehouse were 14-8 up, Auchencairn then scored 10 shots in the next 4 ends, with Gatehouse getting a single in the last.
Tom Rogers, Jock Wallace & William Carruthers of Gatehouse got of to a flyer in the other game with 5 shots in the first end. Jock McGarrie, William Malcolmson & Robert Edgar never managed to recover from this and were down 7-3 after 5 ends, 10-6 after 10 ends and the game finished 15 - 10 to Gatehouse.
After 3 weeks of the Stewartry Seniors Triples League, in Section A, Auchencairn look in pole position on 16 points followed by Castle Douglas, Dalbeattie & Kirkcudbright all on 6 points.
Section B looks much tighter with Gatehouse on 12 points, Castle Douiglas 11 & defending league champions Auchencairn on 10 points. The final game at Auchencairn against Gatehouse looks like being a decider????
